Skill Training Session

Looking for help teaching your dog essential life skills?

These sessions are for common training challenges, such as:

  • Lead pulling,

  • Recall,

  • Jumping up,

  • Barking,

  • Dog-Cat Relationships

  • and more!

Essential skills such as loose lead walking and recall are covered in group classes, but you may prefer to work on a 1-1 basis. Each session will be held at your home or usual dog-walking areas. We'll look at how to prevent or interrupt unwanted behaviour, plus how to motivate and reinforce your dog for doing a preferred behaviour.

Sessions are based on practical training and do NOT contain in-depth theory. Therefore are not suitable for dogs with behavioural struggles e.g. reactivity, resource guarding, aggression etc.

The Process

  1. Book your FREE discovery call to discuss the struggles you're facing and how Dorset Paws can help. There's no obligation to book.

  2. Complete a pet questionnaire to provide full details.

  3. Schedule your Skill Training Session(s). Each session is one hour and is held either at your home or local dog walking route.

  4. Follow up calls, around 1 week later, are optional to check how your progress is coming along and to recap anything that might have been forgotten.

  5. Ongoing text or Whatsapp communication is always available to ask questions and send videos of your training for further support.

2 Sessions - £80

4 Sessions - £120

*One-off sessions only available following the first 2 sessions.

This ensures you have the first session to learn basics and teach

your dog at home, second session to apply it out in more challenging

environments.

Behavioural Consultation

Behavioural consultations are for emotional and psychological based issues, such as:

  • Reactivity towards dogs,

  • Reactivity towards humans,

  • Separation Anxiety,

  • Resource Guarding,

  • Fears,

  • and more

All services are designed with you and your pet in mind, I believe in working as much with you as with your dog. It is not simply about teaching your dog new exercises but targeting the source of the behavioural problem.

My role as a behaviourist is to advise and support you on the path to reducing and altering your dogs' inappropriate behaviour. By working towards solving the underlying cause of the behavioural issues, not only will you begin to understand your dog's emotions, but progress is going to be long-lasting. It is not simply teaching your dog what they should do, but showing them why they do not need to perform the problem behaviour.

Training Walk

Do you find yourself struggling with your dog on walks? Do they pull on the lead, scavenge rubbish, race up to other dogs, chase wildlife, or lack recall? Training walks are a full-hour walk where Faye handles your dog, seeking out the areas of challenge and tackling them head-on to teach your dog new habits and responses to the situation. Faye will find your dogs favourite reinforcers to ensure they quickly learn how to cope and behave in a preferred way. This can then be shared with you to ensure you can replicate the training. Your dog will return home both mentally and physically exercised.

Your presence on these walks is optional, you can trust that your dog is in safe hands. Alone, Faye can focus solely on interacting with your dog and seeking out every opportunity for training. On the other hand, by attending these sessions you can see first-hand how Faye manages your dog in these situations. Though please be aware, that Faye's core focus will be on your dog and may not be able to answer 101 questions during the session. This is to ensure your dog gets the right attention and interaction on the walk.

These sessions are one hour and include a selection of high-value rewards for your dog. However, if your dog has dietary needs please ensure we are informed prior to the session.
